1949 - The year it all began
in Salzburg

Austria was slowly recovering from the years of war. Everything was rebuilt, houses were repaired and coloured and the shelves in the shops were refilled with goods. There was enough food available again and people wanted to enjoy themselves after years of abdication. This hit Josef Gschwandtner (from Salzburg) on a brilliant idea:

I will sweeten the lives of our people” he thought. „I will bring tasty, affordable confectionary on the market.”

The same day he started his work: the first products in his range were delicious bubble gums and surprise bags, similar to what American soldiers sometimes gave to Austrians as presents at that time.
